The lovely ladies of the Trikhala Bellydance Troupe and I met on a Saturday afternoon for a photo session set up by troupe member Kaitlin, who wanted to give the shoot to the troupe members as a belated holiday present. We met at the Illini Union for the shoot, where we had set up a beautiful room that let in plenty of gorgeous natural light through its large windows. As always, I was amazed by the ladies' talent and abilities, as they twisted and turned into unique poses that showed off their belly dancing skills. We were able to take multiple group shots as well as individual photos before calling it a day, and the day was fun and enjoyable! When I first started my professional photography business, the lovely Shyama recruited me into the world of belly dance photography, as she was starting her own path within the art at the same time. I took a lot of photos of her and her troupe's initial performances, and the experience I gained helped solidify my style and abilities. She soon formed a troupe of her own, and when she approached me earlier this year to do a portrait session for the three of them, I had to say yes, because I was so appreciative of all the experience she helped give me in my initial year of shooting! We took a few photos in downtown Champaign until we got too cold (it was February, after all!), at which time we retreated to the Institute 4 Creativity, who graciously allowed us to use their awesome space for the shoot. The summer coming to a close, I met with the lovely ladies of the Classy Combinations Belly Dance Troupe of Champaign for a photoshoot during one of the last warm evenings of the season. We met at the Boneyard Creek Second Street Basin, which offered fantastic backdrops, including a waterfall and pond, without distracting from their vibrant belly dance garb and even brighter faces :). After taking troupe photos around the park, we had time for individual shots as the sun started setting, casting lovely pink hues. |
